Anakin walked into his room from a long day moping brooding hiding doing terribly important yet strangely nebulous things, slowly shut the door and slid down it until he rested on the ground with his head down on his knees.

He was 43 years old today.

He felt much, much older.

In the early, bloody days of the Empire, when most of Vader's time was taken up with finishing the work that Order 66 had begun, he'd thought the lack of a command to find and destroy Obi-Wan Kenobi was an act of mercy by the Emperor.

( Now he knew better. Palpatine didn't believe in mercy. )

Vader's mood had not improved as the week had progressed and tomorrow he would have to face a bunch of his idiot students' idiot parents.

And he was trying very hard not to remember his last Parents' Weekend in Fandom. Those memories brought up feelings that were a lot like regret.
